Course Objectives

You will learn:-

  • essential definitions to help you interpret and audit OHSAS 18001 requirements
  • the purpose, intent and key requirements of OHSAS 18001
  • the contribution audits can make to the effectiveness of your management system
  • the roles and responsibilities of an OH&S auditor and lead auditor
  • how risk assessment is used as a strategic business tool
  • the importance of hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control
  • how to plan your audits by developing effective checklists
  • how to verify that current practice conforms with defined requirements and OHSAS 18001
  • to gather objective evidence through observation, interviewing and sampling of documentation
  • to report findings accurately against the requirements of OHSAS 18001

You will need …

to have successfully completed an IRCA approved Lead Auditor course, or accepted equivalent if you wish to register as an EMS Auditor or Lead Auditor with IRCA. If you do not meet the above criteria, you need to attend our five day OH&S Management Systems Auditor/Lead Auditor course

extensive experience of auditing management systems

ideally to have attended our OHSAS 18001 Appreciation and Interpretation course or OHSAS 18001 Internal Auditor and Foundation course

a working knowledge of OH&S management systems and applicable legislation

to understand the basics of how organisations work and the role of top management
